I’m Kyla Evans: The Culinary Visionary Behind Modern Comfort Cuisine
I was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, where the heart of Southern cooking runs deep. My earliest memories are in my grandmother’s kitchen, watching her work magic with simple ingredients—slow-cooked stews, flaky buttery biscuits, and seafood so perfectly seasoned it felt like an art. That’s where I fell in love with food.
But my path to becoming a chef wasn’t straightforward. I originally pursued a journalism degree at the University of Georgia, thinking I’d spend my life telling stories with words. But one summer, everything changed. I took a job at a small farm-to-table restaurant, and for the first time, I realized I could tell stories through food instead.
That realization led me to The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, where I trained under some of the best chefs in the world. I learned precision, technique, and discipline, but I never forgot my roots. Every dish I create is inspired by the warmth and depth of Southern flavors—modern, refined, but always comforting.
Food is more than just what we eat. It’s history, culture, and emotion on a plate. That’s the philosophy I bring to every dish, every kitchen, and every dining experience I create.
